My Nikon D3200's Auto-focus stopped working. What should I do?
The switch on the lens is pointed on A not M. I have already reset the settings. I don't know what to do with it anymore. The lens is AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G.
Try remounting the lens, and make sure the switch on the camera is on A.
Use it in M mode its not the end of the world
Several things could be wrong. What does the camera say its focus mode is? On page 5 of your manual it tells you how to determine that (item 28).
Another thing is the communication between the lens and the camera body. Remove the lens, look at the contacts on both the camera and the lens. The all should be shiny. Clean with alcohol and QTip if necessary. See page 14 of your manual for attaching instructions.
Have you gone through the Focus instructions on page 35 of your manual? You could have set the focus mode to MF.
You've checked a hundred times, the switch is on A. You've cleaned the electrical contacts of the lens at the mount. You've cleaned the contacts of the camera out of frustration. You've read the manual more than twice. Still nothing?
Before marching up the store (I assume it's under warranty because it's a new model), try to step back, breathe deep and focus on something far like the car parked under the sun across the street. If the picture is clear in the LCD during Preview but not in the viewfinder while you were taking it, adjust the diopter. If the camera did not focus on that then go head back to the store and make your complaint. Do not forget to bring the receipt.
