Lost all photos from computer/camera?

Hi. I've been in London for the weekend and when I came to put the photos from my Nikon D3100 onto my computer, they vanished.
I plugged the camera in as normal, selected the photos I wanted, created a new folder and moved the photos to it
When I opened photoshop, the folder wasn't there. So I checked in my pictures library, and it wasn't there either. I checked on my camera, and the selected photos weren't on there either.

I'm quite upset about this, and I've unplugged and replugged it into my computer twice and removed the SD card once.

There's software that can sometimes recover deleted files from a computer disk, from and SD card, etc. STOP USING THE SD CARD NOW, and get one or two of those recovery products. If you haven't taken other pictures that have overwritten the space that the files used to occupy, you may be able to recover them.

Try looking up some soft ware that might be able to recover your photos.

First thing to do is buy a card reader, they are very cheap. Use the reader to transfer your photos instead of the USB cable.

Next, the photos are probably still on the card.

Deleting photos from a memory card in reality does not truly delete them. It only gives "permission" for the camera to overwrite the files. Though you can't actually view the files after doing a delete, they are still there. This is where recovery software comes into play. Of course, if any photos have been taken after the delete, then some of the original photos are going to be overwritten.

(Note) A card FORMAT execution does totally clear the card. This actually needs to be done from time to time, IN THE CAMERA, to clean up all the pieces of "junk" that tend to collect on the card over time when many deletes have been done. Often, doing a format of the card IN THE CAMERA can solve many odd problems of files not displaying properly and / or the card having less capacity than originally.

Many memory cards come with rescue software. If that is the case, then of course, use that.

A freeware service is Recuva to retrieve deleted files from the computer and memory cards. You can download it from either of these two sites: (It is a Windows only software)
http://www.piriform.com/...com/recuva
http://www.filehippo.com/download_recuva

Another program from Transcend is RecoveRx. It supposedly works across many operating systems and various memory media:

ZAR (Zero Assumption Recovery) is a free program for image recovery:

With the SanDisk Extreme Card, you can download the RescuePro data recovery software from:
http://www.sandisk.com

Lexar Image Rescue 4, ($33.99) is free with some pro level cards, but works with any brand of memory card. Available here:

Finally, you may also want to check with any computer service / repair shops / stores in your area. Card recovery has become part of life over the last few years. Don't feel you are alone with this problem. Many, if not most, computer services are faced with having to do this often and it has become a relatively normal procedure. So if you are not comfortable trying to do it yourself, you can most likely find a good computer service facility that can recover your memory card files.

Some details do not add up, to have images on camera, and upload to computer is one thing, but to have them disappear on computer and on camera seems deliberate or impossible in synchronized occurrence,

if you did upload files, then they must be there somewhere,
only cayuses of loss are detached drive, wrong directory, wrong format, changes in file extension reference has linked to other program, , system crashed and restored to previous time event,

as for camera, to delete files after transfer is option on camera, if you had that on, then that makes sense, if not, then some other or someone other may be tampering with your devices,

check camera internal memory and check card again,
if able try undelete / unerase tools for sd-card,

for images on computer, run search for recent date and file extension name on whole drive

if location is found but not files, then try undelete tools,

if files were corrupt through camera to start with, then no recovery will work
