How to recover lost photos?

I was trying to upload photos from my Nikon D40 using ArcSoft PhotoImpression 6, and I canceled the upload before it was done (I hit cancel, I didn't just unplug the cord or anything) and now all of my pictures are gone. They were not uploaded, but they don't seem to be on the disk anymore either. Please help! I have so many wonderful pictures on there from my study abroad in Europe and I would hate to have lost them forever!

Try a USB card reader. They're available where ever cameras are sold for little $$.

You may have also corrupted your card so if a reader doesn't work I'd also suggest buying a new card.
If that's the case your photos are probably gone.

Using a "program" to copy images to your computer can be problematic as you have found. Many of them MOVE the images rather than COPY them.

There's a program published by Lexar called Rescue 4 which is successful in recovering images lost due to incidents like you describe. It costs about $35 USD and can be downloaded. You will also need a card reader if your notebook does not have one.

In the future, use that card reader to copy your images to your computer, NOT a program

Until you can recover the images from your memory card, use a different card. If you use the one with the lost images, you will forever lose the old image files since your camera will be writing over them

Recover pictures from your camera's memory card. Here is the steps might be helpful to you:
1, do not save any new file to camera's memory card.
2, Take out memory card, and connect it to computer using a card reader. You should see memory card shown as a drive letter (like H. In Windows Explorer.
3. Download recover software asoftech photo recovery ( http://www.asoftech.com/apr/ ) Install and open asoftech photo recovery, select the memory card, and click 'Start' button.
