Is the Nikon D3100 really going to be discontinued?

If so, why?

Because its like 3-4 years old. I'm not sure if they have a D3200… But I know they have a D5000 and D5100 and the newest one is the D5200 which is what I want, but cost to much.

The replacement D3200 has been available since April of last year, over one year ago.

What ever D3100 cameras are still out there may not be around for long

As fhotoace stated, the D3200 has been out for awhile. It's standard procedure for all companies, camera, electronic, automobile, etc. To carry the discontinued model until inventory is sold out. That does give the consumer a price break, if they don't really need the upgrades with newer models.

BTW, the D3100 is capable of excellent photos. Discontinued or not, that doesn't change.

I believe it has already ceased being manufactured. While the D3100 is a fine camera, it has been replaced by the D3200. The D3100 remains in the catalog as there are still new cameras in the supply chain.

Same thing with the D90.It ceased production long ago. It was replaced by the D7000, and then the D7100, but there's still new stock - so it stays in the catalog. They must have made a lot of them.

It should have been already since the D3200 is already out. That's the way life goes with technology. You're only good up until new and better features come out.
