How to edit a picture like this?

How do I edit this to make the effects like the ones in this picture?

To edit well is such a long process you will struggle to find anyone who will list out the crazy detail involved on here.

Some tips:
Copy the bacground so you have two layers. Apply 'high pass' change layer type to overlay or soft light. Change occupacy according to preferences.
This sharpens a picture.

Desaturate the whites of the eyes to make them appear brighter and more crisp without having white eye.

Creature a new layer, paint it entirely black. Lower the satuation of the layer. With a large low hardness eraser erase the dark where desired, this gives a dark burn to the edges.

Well it's not so much about the editing as it is about the lighting. Examine the images closely and look at where the lighting is coming from. There's one light coming from the left side, and one on the right positioned at about 3/4 view. Of course, this is a professional shoot, so they used professional lighting. But it's pretty easy to replicate this using natural lighting and a reflector, or just any type of fluorescent lights. Play around with it and think creatively. Knowing lighting is more important than knowing how to post-process on photoshop.
