I don't own any of these… If you have a fatty wallet both are good… Choosing good lenses including primes will give a good performance. I own nikon d7000, with many lenses

If you have the money then buy the D800. But be prepared to buy expensive lenses with both.

The image sensor on the D800 is so good that it can show small defects in images caused by impurities in the lenses glass elements.

Usually by the time a person decides to invest in a full frame camera, they already have been using a specific camera system.

If you have a Canon system you will want to buy the 5D, Mark III. If you do this, you will have to replace any of your EF-S lenses since they can't be used on any of the Canon full frame cameras (1D, 5D or 6D cameras) so you will have to replace them with EF lenses

If you have a Nikon system, the you will want to buy the Nikon D800. If you have any DX lenses, you can still use them on the D800, so you will not have to replace any of them

Handle them and find out, but you may well save money with a Sony - they also do some very nice full-frame models.
