From nikon to canon?

My friend has been speaking to me about switching to canon. She has a Nikon D5200 and her dream camera is the 5D Mark III. Is it worth it? (I'm buying it for her gift if it's worth it)

Well, the Canon 5D Mk III is certainly a better camera than the Nikon D5200 (assuming she has the ability to use each camera to it's fullest), but there are certainly Nikon bodies every bit as good or better than the 5D Mk III. Unless she has NO Nikon lens or flash collection, it would be pretty stupid to change to Canon.

The bottom line is that NO camera is any better than the user. If her skill and knowledge is not where it should be, the Canon is not going to magically make things better, it will, most likely, show up her faults even more.

This is going to be an emotional purchase. That is, she wants it, so it is worth it for her. She'll be happy to receive it.

Would it make her photograph any different? No. She will continue to take exactly the same photograph with Canon as she did with Nikon.

If I was already in the Nikon system with a D5200, I'd prefer to get the D810 or D610. Both of which are newer cameras than the 5D Mark III, with better image quality, and faster focusing systems.
If you do end up getting her a Canon, you'll also want to get her a Nikon to Canon lens adapter so that she can use all of her current lenses on the Canon.

It's definitely worth it for your friend, not so sure how it's worth it for you though?

It won't automatically improve your friends images.

Yes it's well worth it.

She must be an AWESOME friend for you to buy a 5D for her. GOSH, I wish I had a friend just like you.

A new camera body won't improve her photography. It would just give her access to even more tools which might give her the chance to widen her photography.

Also, did you consider she has to get used to Canon? I use Canon yet it took me a while to get used to the 6D, so she might be even more confused with it.

If I were you I'd consider a nice new lens for her, especially if she's got more than a couple of lenses already (unless your planning on also getting a Nikon to Canon mount).

If you likes, then yes, worth it.
