What camera setting should I use?
Hi Guy's,
I won't to take a sun set from the bottom of my street but what camera setting should i use i keep trying to get it perfect but at 16 i can't afford photoshop and i have a nikon d5100 with the 18-55 kit lens and a basic 70-300mm lens hope you can help me
ISO 100-200
Shoot aperture priority (Av) or manual (M)
Aperture f16 or so.
Spot meter on the area of sky you want to retain as a midtone - underexpose a stop or 2 if you want richer colours.
You will nee dto adjust shutter speed for the exposure you want if in manual, or if in Av mode, dial in some -EV comp if you want the exposure down a stop or so.
Agreed with the poster above me, but if you are shooting in full manual mode adjusting the exposure compensation won't have any affect.
Deep Blue had a good answer, but on your Nikon the aperture priority mode will be labeled 'A' on the dial. You will probably also need tripod.
@Will "if you are shooting in full manual mode adjusting the exposure compensation won't have any affect."
The exposure compensation will affect the result even in manual mode because it will mess with the light meter. If you take a shot at 1/250 and get a correct exposure then set the exposure compensation the -2EV your light meter will tell you that the correct exposure is 1/1000 then you'll end up being underexposed.
So it's important to make sure the exposure compensation is "0".
