Nikon d50 is an dslr or slr? - 1
It's digital, thus it's a DSLR. Check the wikipedia page for confirmation.
The D kind of gives it away, don't you think?
Both.
DSLRs are SLRs. The "D" in "D50" and "DSLR" means digital.
SLRs come in two flavours, digital or film.
Strictly speaking it is both!
It is a digital single reflex camera - a DSLR
The term SLR does include DSLRs but has come to be applied to 35mm film cameras.
The D50 was a nice camera ten years ago. If you find a good deal on a used sample in good condition, it can still be worthwhile--better than a noisy compact or bridge camera of today. It is not worth spending $900+ on an unused sample.
BTW, the D50 does not support SDHC. It can use a 2GB SD card. You probably won't find one in the drugstore or big box store. BH Photo, Adorama, or Amazon should still have some.
It's a digital SLR…
All DSLRs are SLRs. But no SLR is a DSLR. The only difference is that one uses film and one uses a sensor.
Both, strictly speaking. SLR is single lens reflex (a type of camera design). The "D" in dSLR simply means digital.
So-called politically correct people stuck to referring to film SLRs simply as SLR. We wouldn't want anyone speaking about F-SLRs wouldn't we? That would be effingly funny.
It is a SLR which stores its images digitally, thus it is a DSLR. "SLR" is the general type, which can be film-based or digital.
