My nikon d5000 will auto focus and flash but not take a picture?

It is not the darkness level and i tried the two button reset.

Maddy, have you overlooked the obvious? Have you loaded a memory card, formatted in your D5000? DSLR's do not have internal memory, like some point & shoots and can't take pictures without them.

Like george said, check the memory card. If that doesn't work change the camera back to its default settings and try again.
