Is the Sunpak 2000 bz thyristor flash compatible with Nikon D5000?

Will it damage my camera in the long run? The flash is intended for my old manual camera but the Sunpak 2000 bz thyristor flash works with my nikon d5000.

I'm not quite sure, but if you want to be completely safe, get a converter/base which plugs into your hotshoe, and has a slot for a pc cord, run a pc cord to your flash (or to another converter at the base of the flash). These converters generally only run from under 20 or so dollars.
