What do you think?

Nikon's main problem is the lack of body motors on their budget models, does the D80 have a body motor?

If you don't know, now would be a good time to find out, this should also answer your initial question.

Yes. The D80 is compatible with all Nikon AF lenses except the little Nikon 1 series and the Pronea lenses from a few years ago.

Yes. And since your Nikon D80 has a focusing motor, it will focus. However, it is not the best lens you can buy.

The Nikon AF-S 70-300mm f/4.5~5.6 is a far superior lens - much sharper, and has VR as well. It is a bit pricey at $580, but you can usually find them refurbished.

I used to own the AF 70-300mm before I bought the AF-S version.

I bought mine (Nikon factory) refurbished here:

It looks new, and works like new. The only differences are the shorter warranty and the lens comes in a plain box. But it was almost $200 less expensive. If you buy refurbished, make sure it is Nikon factory refurbished and not user or store refurbished.
