I have a Nikon D5100. Looking to take shots of paintball action. What lens?

Looking to take pics of paintball action and dot know what lens would work. I'd be behind a mesh net and the actions would be done on a length no bigger than football field. Would a 18-200 work? I'm not a professional. So I don't need to spend thousands on a lens. Just want to be able to capture action in good quality.

Hmm. Too bad there's no such thing as a 18-200mm f/2.8.

a 18-200mm or 55-200mm should be OK, 100 yards is a bit far away. With a lens that is 200mm on the long end, you still want to be no more than 100 feet away or less to get a good shot, even then you will need to crop images. Lenses that are longer and still not too expensive will have poor image quality.

one final thing, having the lens isn't enough. Do you know how to use that dSLR to get the shutter speed you need? I guess you will find out. Buy a clear UV filter for the front lens element for safety.
