Camera photography help (Professionals please)?

Alex
Alex

I need someone who is a professional photographer can tell me what lens & flash can I use to shoot high speed photos for ex: Fruits splashing through water or taking photos of smoke.

I really need the name of the lens & flash, I've got a NIKON D5100 and I'm only a begginnerr. If I can have a small talk with a professional photographer through skype or anything that'll be grateful.

Sincerely,

Alex

P.S: I'm not quite sure how to setup my aperture and my shutter and I don't quite know how to use them for a specific photo.

Any manual flash will do.

I use a Yongnuo YN560 triggered off camera with RF602 radio triggers. The total cost - about £50 for the flash, about £20 for the triggers.

Set the camera on manual and ensure the shutter speed is below the max sync speed for flash (1/200 sec or less).

Exposure of the photo is then controlled only by the aperture and flash power.

Couple of Youtube videos from Gavin Hoey on smoke & water drop photography here;

Examples from my photostream;

Details of flash placement etc are given with each photo.

Feel free to contact me via Flickrmail if you require more info.

The lens is less important - although when doing water drops it helps to have a longer focal length so that you can keep the camera well away from splashes.
