How a two year warranty for a camera works at Best Buy?

Last year, I bought the Nikon P600, with a two year warranty. The sales person told my father and I that in the future, if i brought in the P600, I could get a dslr paying the difference of the P600. "A dslr will only cost you about 200 dollars." Its been a year and i'm preparing to get a Nikon d5200. If you work there or have any info, what should i take alongside the camera, any paperwork? Receipts? I have an online receipt they sent me on my email. Also, if i get the D5200 will it really be around $200?

Maybe the sales person was not quite accurate in their statements.

READ the two year extended warranty and exchange policy you got with your camera.

If in doubt, take your camera into Best Buy with your warranty paperwork and ask them what can be done. NONE of us here will know since most of us buy what we want after much research and only upgrade when it makes senseā€¦ Like buying a NIkon D500 to replace my D700 or buying a D800e to replace my old Nikon D3

I find that selling my old equipment produces the most benefit to me as a photographer rather than depending upon promises made by a sales persons sales pitch.

How? Warranty is not for replacing. It's for repair. A 2-year warranty simply allows you to extend free service for another year above the standard 1-year factory warranty. Parts may or may not be free depending on what you signed.

Warranty is definitely not for saving up for a better camera as what I think you have been duped into believing into and warranty in my experience always require the sales receipt on paper.

I think the salesperson pulled one on your dad, or he misunderstood. Best Buy, to my knowledge, does not have a trade-in program for cameras, especially one that gives your full credit for the used camera. Don't make sense. I suspect that the discussion with your dad had something to do with what could happen if the P600 had a warranty problem, or if he wanted to return it during the 15-day return period.

No, because the 5200 is not a comparable model.
