Canon camera or Nikon camera?

I'm about to buy a $500 camera from either canon or nikon. Which one is better? (clearer photos)

Added (1). I like to take pictures of EVERYTHING, mostly people though.

What will you be taking pictures of? Are you a photographer?

Nikon is always better no matter what you are taking pictures of. Thats the truth

They're equally as good. It really has more to do with how you use it.

Thats a good question
i own an old nikon D50, this allows me to have lots of different lenses
which is fun. I like natural photography, plants, insects etc.
i find that the nikon is tricky to use, its complicated, but the lenses do
allow me to do interesting things.
I like the fact on this model if you over expose then it flashes the over
exposed area. I also like the extra small lcd on top with the current settings on it.

i also do a lot of charity work
for them i do video and camera stuff.
i bought them a 500 series canon, with a better lens than standard, a 135 zoom.
i like using this camera
i don't like the fact i can't easily see any adjustments i've made
i don't like the fact by default it doesn't tell you about over exposure.
i generally think canons are poor in low light, that definitely is a massive
problem for their camcorders, and i've noticed it on this camera too.
but the pictures the canon takes in good light are far better and easier to take than my
nikon. The canons focusing seems much more reliable. And the pictures themselves
are just better. This means on the whole the canon is better for me,
but i dislike the low light performance.

i think nikon are trying hard to make their cameras more attractive,
but their operation is still too geeky.
but i'm still keeping my nikon because of the choice of lenses for it.

if your not bothered about having lots of lenses and the low light operation isn't
important then its the canon, because it just takes better photos and is easier
to use, but it doesn't help you quite as much as the nikons.

i think on balance you get better value for money with the caons, but far more
flexibility with the nikons

If you really think there's a difference, you'd be better off with a pink, 'Hello Kitty.'

Pentax, Sony and Olympus do the job just as well, as you would've seen had you bothered to read the answers to the thousand other times this question has been asked.
