Canon AE-1 or Nikon F2?

I have the F2, but since I'm a Canon user, I would rather use a Canon. A friend of mine has the AE-1 and would like to swap it with my F2.Is it worth it?

Added (1). @Ibragim: F2, not FE2.

Added (2). Yes, I know the lenses of AE1 won't work with the Canon EOS bodies. I don't want the F2 simply because 'I want a Canon instead of a Nikon'.So I'm wondering if there's huge difference between those two bodies.

Read this article about those two digital cameras please.

Remember, Canon FD (manual focus) lenses don't fit their DSLRs - you'd still be running two systems.

I'd also think twice about Canon's A-series. There's a nasty little cumulative error in the reflex mirror mechanism (the A-1 squeak, but all A-series suffer from it) that's virtually impossible to repair and will turn the camera into a paperweight.

Please note the other reply referred to an article from 1987 and a much lower level Nikon. The Nikon F2 was considered to be a professional level SLR. Your friend is offering a lopsided trade.

One big thing you need to be aware of is that the AE-1 uses the excellent, but totally incompatible FD lenses. The won't work with any of your Canon DSLR bodies. If you want a fulm Canon, look for any of the EOS series.

If you want Canon kit and he wants your Nikon then yes, it is worth it. Theoretically the Nikon is the better of the two cameras, but both are worth so little on the second hand market now that it's marginal. If you sold your F2 you probably wouldn't bet a lot for it, so if you think you would be happy with your friend's AE-1 then go for it.

I too am a Canon man through and through since buying my first Canon SLR in 1977 - an AE-1

Problems with the AE-1 - the battery is no longer available so a slightly different alternative has to be used that messes up exposures. The shutter becomes very unreliable as they get old (and all of them are old!) - if it skeaks or squeals when activated then it is dying - should be a very quiet "snickty snick" sound.

Don't do it unless your friend is offering a bundle of cash as well as the AE-1 for your F2.
