Do you mean the Nikon Coolpix P510? That's got a huge zoom on it already.

Duct tape it to a telescope.

No.

It's a bridge camera. No interchangeable lens mount. You can't change the lens. You can't add to it. It already has the longest zoom in the whole wide world. What more would you want?

No you can't. It already has a ridiculous 42x zoom. If you need more, you will just have to get closer.

The camera comes with a zooms lens that goes all the way out to a 1000mm. It should be perfect for shooting "big game" animals in Africa (that is if there are any animals left in Africa). There's absolutely no subject matter I can think of where 1000mm is necessary other than wild animals at a distance.

Personally speaking, I'm fond of this type "bridge camera", but that lens length scares me.
You need to handle this camera yourself. Sight thru the camera and zoom out to the cameras maximum magnification, if the subject matter wobbles or moves, you know that a tripod is mandatory for shooting with the lens extended this far out. Even if the camera has lens stabilization to prevent movement.

This may be all the camera you will ever need. So it is more than a "starter" camera in my opinion.

Regarding holding the camera steady, the camera manufacturers are now adding longer lenses onto their bridge type cameras since they have already reach beyond the "megapixel" limit necessary for sharp enlargements.
