i want the camera for taking family photos which include kids, so it will need to e fast, also, i don't want it to have use of normal batteries that you buy in a regular store as the cameras seem to be very hard on them. I was told nikon was a good make.

I've always had nikons or Olympus cameras never had a problem with either. Right now I have a shock proof and water proof Olympus camera and absolutely LOVE it. Fast and takes nice pics

I doubt if a single camera on that page has the PASM dial / controls
program, aperture priority, shutter priority, manual
This being the primary basics of control over your gear and shot!

& yeah, it uses lithium ion batteries

Nikon and Canon are the top two in the camera world and by quite a good margin.
Look for cameras that have reachargeable Lithium Ion batteries that you can take out.
If you want a cheaper camera then buy Eneloop AA batteries for it. These have a very low self-dischange rate. With NiMh you can come back a week later and the battery will be flat so buy ones that say they won't discharge rapidly. You could buy Li Ion throw-aways but although they last 6 times as long they're expensive you can't recharge them.
For kids photos the most important thing is a camera that isn't too big to take with you.
For best imagew quality and speed of operation see if a Sony Nex is in your budget. If money is no object then get a DSLR.
