Would you use a 18-55mm f1.3 nikon lens to shoot a wedding?
Would you use a 18-55mm f1.3 nikon lens to shoot a wedding?
No. You need a faster lens. And a zoom.
Nope. Mostly because there's no such thing as an 18-55mm f/1.3 lens.
Unless you are the second shooter, you shouldn't be doing a wedding. There's a reason why only pros should do weddings---experience.
Since there's no such lens… No.
The 18-55mm "kit" lenses (and Nikon's isn't an f/1.3) are okay, but they aren't particularly sharp, distortion-free, or false-color free. Invest in some better lenses.
For your own personal photos of going to a wedding, that could be ok to use the kit lens on your camera.
If someone is going to pay you and this is all your going to be armed with, back out before you have a bridezilla after you.
The range on that lens is so wide your going to have to be up in everyones business to shoot, and thats something you try to avoid. You want to capture the moments while not being caught in everyone elses moment!
A budget/amateur wedding photographer may use a 18-200ish lens for ceremony and maybe a 50mm 1.8 or 1.4 for some portrait shots.
As you get into photographers with more experience they might be prepared with stuff like 16-35, 24-70, 70-200mm all with f/2.8. Some of these photogs will also have back up cameras, lenses, flashes and other gear because stuff can happen.
If your being paid to shoot this wedding, and your sure of your skill to do a good job. I would check the cost to rent some quality lenses from somewhere like borrowlenses.com and see if what your getting paid - cost to rent will still leave it so you profit.
