Will Nikon send me a replacement camera if I can't fix the autofocus function?
Will Nikon send me a replacement camera if I can't fix the autofocus function?
My old Nikon D300 got hammered when I was shooting on the sidelines of a football game
The auto-focus became intermittent. I sent it into Nikon and four under $250, they replaced the auto-focus array and motor, the bottom plate, cleaned my sensor and replaced the shutter. The camera came back looking like new.
Call them and arrange for your camera to be repaired.
I haven't dropped it. This camera is as dear to me as a child to its parent. I treat it with the utmost care. I think the warranty has run out, but the problem i'm having is simple enough to fix, i'm sure. I'm just not seeing a change in the behavior of my camera when people give me tips on how it should be fixed…
Alch, No, you need to contact the service department for your country and arrange to return the faulty camera, if it's still covered by a warranty it will be inspected and any damage/fault will be assessed, if you are thought to be responsible for the damage/fault they will send you an estimate for the repair, if the fault is due to faulty materials/components/workmanship then Nikon will either repair the camera or replace it, whichever is more cost effective.
Ha! Ha! Did you hear the song " Oh you beautiful dreamer?" Camera manufactures "rarely" replace a product unless the product has a defect that they caused in the manufacturing You don't give much details in your question so this makes it harder to help you. However reading the others "answers". I would suggest as others have to contact the "Nikon" service center. Hopefully you are just doing/not doing something that is simple to fix like maybe you have set the camera to "manual" focus. I would recommend a second reading of your manual. And then checking the manual/auto focus switch.
Is it under warranty? If it's under warranty and defective, they will either repair or replace it. If it doesn't work
because you dropped it, you're out of luck.
All of the following apply for a DSLR.
Have you tried to clean the electrical contacts to the lens, have you tried resetting the camera, have you tried the camera with a different lens. Were you using the camera in the correct mode. Sometimes the auto focus will not work properly in dull light or when contrasting details are not sharp. The problem could also be user error such as trying to focus on something to small or to far away. Have you got the auto focus on the correct setting (the auto focus can be adjusted on a lot of camera's.
Try playing with the settings before you send the camera away for repair. Or if you need to revert back to the user manual to try and diagnose and rectify the problem yourself.
If the camera is not a DSLR and is out of warranty it may be more cost effective just to buy a new camera.
Nope. Once it is out of warranty, they will repair it. If it is a DSLR or expensive Coolpix, then it would be worth repairing. I have had them repair my D90 a couple times. If the camera sells for less than about $400, you are better off replacing it.
If it is under warranty and you have not misused or damaged the camera the Nikon should sort it, usually via the dealer weho sold it to you. Do not attempt to "fix" anything inside the camera yourself, you are likely to make it worse and invalidate the warranty.
Make sure first that you are not simply doing something wrong in using the camera - study the handbook, or ask a local wise guy.
