Why are cameras getting more expensive?
I was going to buy a Nikon D3300 For around $500 and now it's like $700 at its cheapest. What's going on?
You need to shop around.
BH Photo, which has a very good reputation, currently shows the D3300 with 18-55mm AF-S VR kit lens for $497. With 55-200mm lens added, $647.
The cost of cameras has more to do with the fluctuation of international currency.
The stronger the Yen, the more Dollars it costs to buy products from Japan.
My first digital SLR was a cropped frame Nikon D100 (circa 2002) and it cost $2,000 for just the body which had a 6 mp sensor. In today's Dollars that is about $2,700 and for that I can just about buy a Nikon full frame D810 with a 36 mp sensor.
So really the cost of camera gear has come down a whole lot, especially when you consider that the first Kodak digital SLR cameras had a 2 mp sensor and cost just over $35,000 in 1998
Spend some time on the Nikon website and you may find that your figures are a little eschew
The standard price right now, anywhere you buy, on the D3300 with 18-55mm kit lens is $499.99. If you found it for $700, it would come with a different higher priced lens. You should make sure you are comparing equally equipped products.
Inflation.

Usually price variations come with different lenses. Even the 18-55mm kit lens with the D3300 can vary because they have a new model of the lens out. The $700 price says to me they are offering two lenses, the 18-55mm and probably the 55-200mm.
