Which is better, a high end Canon camera or a HE Nikon?

The choice that one makes (Canon vs Nikon) has to do with a variety of variables. For example, my employer has a fully stocked equipment room with all Brand-X gear for me to use on assignments. I'm going to shoot Brand-X so I don't have to buy all that expensive gear.
The job will have multiple freelance photographers and the art director wants to a continuity among all of the files and videos that we'll take. Meaning that the look of Canon and Nikon aren't the same and would require hours of editing to match the look of all the different shots. Therefore brand matters.
I need a camera that does a specific thing and only Brand-X does it or does this one thing better than the others. Then I'll get Brand-X. Sometimes it's that you friend or family member used Brand-X, so you use Brand-X. One high-end camera isn't better than another for all things. An EOS-1Dx will be better for some people than a Nikon D4/D4s and vise versa depending on what they're doing. And for others, a Pentax will be better which is why I'm shooting a 645D and not something else.

Cameras are like smart phones. You have android fans and Apple fans. Same with Nikon and Canon. You will get the same features in a camera at the same price. Go to a high end camera store and they will be more than willing to help you out. Hold the cameras in your hand and see which one feels better. Also, don't overlook Pentax… They are not as well known as canon or nikon, but they are made of a metal alloy rather than plastic, and they are weather resistant so you don't have to worry about it getting wet. It will also have the same features at about the same price. They are customizable too in regards to colors, etc.

The one in your hands.

Personally, I'd take Pentax over either, and there are many out there who prefer Sony's superior video.

Every photographer who ever lived has an opinion, and if you want a DSLR (Canon and Nikon are nothing special otherwise, unless you spend stupid amounts of money) it's time to form your own.

While they are far out of my price range, I've observed professionals using both HE cameras, so it becomes a matter of personal preference. I did find it interesting that one well known professional, Scott Kelby, converted from Nikon to Canon, and gives his reasons.

Maybe Nikon, both make excellent SLR cameras.
