Nikon SLR Cameras

What would be the best to start with? - 1

Recently some of my friends got me into acting and filming. I really like it and I might be taking a TV Production class next year. (I'll be a senior in high school) This would be my first time doing something like this even though I've done films with friends for a couple months. I'm doing more during the summer so i'll get a little bit more experience.
What would be the best camera for making videos that aren't too expensive (maybe $700 max? Or a bit over if it's worth it) and what would be a good program for video editing? I was thinking of a Nikon D1300 but if you guys find a better one, i'll look into it.

I saw you also posted this over in "Camcorders" and "Polls & Surveys", and gave my full Answer in the "Camcorders" section: Usually, it's best just to ask the same Question once, and let the 4-day Q&A cycle run its course.

[SIDEBAR @NickP: Flynn took your advice, but since he specifically asked about a Nikon D1300 -- a camera, not a camcorder -- why not lift a finger and give your opinion on THAT? When someone comes over to "Camcorders" and starts asking about Nikon D-series or Canon EOS/Rebels, we'll at least give 'em the pros & cons of DSLRs vs regular camcorders. We might also suggest asking over here in "Cameras", but we also try to be helpful to what they actually asked, too.]

hope this helps,

Whether you're new to the world of DSLRs, or are a seasoned photographer who wants to try your luck at video, the Canon Rebel T2i is perfect. I've had nothing but great experiences with it so far, and highly recommend to everyone. The camera is very small and light. It is not weather-sealed or as durable as some of the more expensive SLRs, but it doesn't "feel cheap" in my opinion. It features a 3-inch LCD, which also has a very high resolution. It looks lovely! Auto-focus is fast, and I've been very pleased with the quality of the pictures and videos I've taken so far.
