What should I sve up for and how much?
So I'm going into highschool this year and here are some things I would like to save up for.
Nice camera ( like a Nikon one)
New clothes + shoes for highschool
A car
College
I have about $100 right now which I earned really easily in about 2 weeks and I've been doing babysitting and my birthday is coming up. Last summer I earned $300 on babaysittin alone. So that should give you an insight on my earnings.
Anyways, how much should I start saving up for those things?
Truthfully, the best one to save for would be college because in the long run it will keep you from debt by not having to take out student loans (which while right now don't seem like a big deal, they suck in the long run). However, if you don't want to think that long term, I would go for a camera if you're talking a professional grade one and photography is your passion, you can go far with photography, and if you get good enough in college you can make a part time job out of it, taking portraits and engagement pictures and doing weddings and all sorts of stuff. A car would be the next thing on my list, but go for a cheaper car. I bought my first car for $750 and it lasted me for 6 years without a big breakdown, it wasn't pretty but it got me through quite a few road trips! If you really want clothes, go clearance shopping at the end of the season. No one is going to notice if you are wearing last seasons clothes, and they are so much cheaper! If you are dead set on wanting clothes, maybe take $25 out of every $100 you save and go buy some clothes, and go to cheaper stores. Go to places like TJ Maxx, Ross, Marshalls, Gordmans, Burlington Coat Factory, etc., that have those name brand clothes but for cheap, and go straight to the clearance racks before even looking at regularly priced clothes. You can get some good stuff for cheap - I don't pay over $10 for a shirt, $20 for pants/skirts/shorts, $30 for dresses/shoes and I have several designer name pieces.
