Looking to buy a new lens for my D600 but I'm not sure whitch to buy first the nikon 24-70 or the 70-200 the only lens I have for my D600 is a 50mm f1.4… A little about me I shoot everything from landscapes nature wildlife to parties and portraits no sports (at the moment) so both lens will fit my shooting needs. I just need a reason why to buy one over the other for a second lens till I get the third. Iv pretty much used my 50 for everything I just happen to make it work now I want it to be easier on me and looking to hear your opinions.

Which lens you buy has to do with which subjects you want to shoot first

The wide angle zoom lens I use on my D800 is the Nikkor 14-24 mm f/2.8

When shooting wildlife, I use either the Nikkor 300 mm f/2.8 or 200-400 mm f/4

The 85 mm f/1.8 is perfect for shooting portraits, however the 70-200 mm f/2.8 is also capable of shooting portraits.

I use the NIkkor 24-70 mm when shooting events like parties.

As you can see, you have many choices

Here is how various Nikkor lenses see things

EDIT:
My guess is that you picked the 50 mm f/1.4 due to all the chatter about prime lenses. While the 50 mm f/1.4 lens is a perfect lens for shooting portraits using a cropped sensor camera, that is not true for full frame cameras such as the D600
