I was looking for the cheapest price for a nikon camera, and the best website had a 'white box offer' - so i was just wondering what this meant

White Box means that it's not a retail package. It's packaged in a plain box (often but not always white).

You'll get the camera and all the accessories… Just not a box with all the pictures and information on it like you'd see if you went to a brick-and-mortar store and bought it there.

Those cameras are either returns where the retail box has been damaged or all together lost and the slightly used camera is sold at a slight discount.

They can also be grey market cameras, so before you buy, make sure that they are NOT grey market camera and lens. You need to visit the Canon website to see "What's in the Box" to make sure that any:"white" box camera you buy has all the same accessories

Non-standard packaging.

It may mean anywhere from a missing original box to a gray area unit. It's still an original camera though. The most you may miss is outright service.

I found this explanation on line.
"White box is just what it implies… Lens comes in a white box rather than the Canon box. These are supposed to be a lens that was removed from a kit, where the camera was sold separetly. Perhaps because the buyer only wanted the camera. I also have to wonder if some retailer separate kits becasue they can get more $'s selling separetly. Just speculation? Anyway, I have a white box lens and it came in a white box with the full warranty documentation, was brand new and works just great. I didn't need the $100 Canon box since I have no intention of reselling the lens down the road. But with anything, buyer beware so where you get it from might make a difference."
