What are the biggest differences in the specs between the Nikon V1 J1 and J2 Cameras?
I want to get a nice camera for xmas.
I see the differences in prices so I understand the J2 is probably more powerful than the v1 and J1, but what are the main differences?
Here they are, side by side.

I suggest you spend some time visiting the Nikon website and see for yourself
They all share the same 10Mp sensor made by Aptina, so it is a bit surprising that there's a measurable difference at dxomark between the three cameras. Whether or not this is due to manufacturing tolerances, firmware version, image processor differences, or other factors is puzzling. At any rate, the differences are measurable, but not noticeable or significant.
The J1 and J2 were designed as entry level, while the V1 and V2 as the upscale cameras. The J2 in reality only has a few cosmetic differences over the J1, however the V2 does have a larger sensor and significant upgrades over the J1/J2/V1.
The most significant upgrade of the J2 is the LCD resolution (921k dot) over the J1 (460k dot), however it is still not as good as the V1 (1.4m dot).
The V1 has an upgraded LCD screen over either the J1/J2, as well as a larger capacity battery (same as the D7000/D600, which is why this camera is larger) and an electronic viewfinder that the J1/J2 lack.
The V1 also has access to additional accessories, including two speedlights and a GPS receiver, along with possible future products. This is by virtue of a proprietary hot-shoe that the J1/J2 does not have.
In terms of camera ranking, the four cameras are ranked as: J1, J2, V1, V2.
The V1 was never as popular as the J1. Whether this has to do with the lack of a built-in flash (two more powerful optional flashes are available), the initial higher price ($350 more), or lack of snazzy colors is also unclear.
But the V1 can be had right now for $299 at B&H until the end of the month - or while supplies last (Adorama has sold out of them). Realize that this is a close-out price, but the camera has only been around for about 14 months.

Given this was originally a $899 camera, the V1's current pricing means it is the best camera between the J1/J2/V1, in terms of both price and capability. There's one under my tree!
Want a nice camera? Look at a Nikon D3100.It's far better than those two.
