Trying to pick a dslr, Nikon or Canon?

I'm going to use the camera for sports, low light, and daily. But most likely daily. A good sensor size would be nice but it's not really necessary. Burst mode, maximum shutter speed- not that much, and dust protection are some of the extras.

Congrats! That fits just about any DSLR from either brand. Go to a shop, handle a few, see what you think.

Swings and Roundabout.
There's so little difference between the two these days. Go to a shop, try a few out and buy the one you like the best.

I only recommend what I own and know so that's Canon. I have two dslr cameras from the Rebel line and they're both excellent. I recommend anything in the Canon Rebel line.

It's very much personal preference. Both brands will take excellent pics. Since you plan on doing sports photography, you should go to a store and check out the Canon 7D and the Nikon D7000, and choose the one that feels better in your hands and seems more intuitive to you to operate.
