Is this a good start camera for experimenting with photography, I still don't know if this will become a full time hobby, so i didn't feel like dropping any more money than this.

When a company includes a bunch of junk (Wide Angle Lens Adapter, 2x Telephoto Lens [nothing more than a filter], a Professional Full Size Deluxe Tripod w/ Carry Case, which isn't -- pro tripods cost from $300 to over $1,2000 without a head, Lens Cap Keeper which no one uses, this just screams, "I'm a grey market camera"

Did you read this? "Note: This camera may be an imported model… Imported models do not carry a USA manufacturer warranty card"

The fact that there's no mention of the accessories that come with a Nikon D3100 like a battery, battery charger, body cap, lens caps and the Nikon CD, tells you that this company is really a bait and switch company. By the time you buy a Nikon battery, battery charger and caps, they will have soaked you good,.

Just look at the cost of such a camera from a real camera seller.

A slightly better camera (newer technology)

Trying to get the "best deal" on eBay has always been a risk. This just proves the point.

Save the extra money you need for a real US camera and be done with it

The camera is fine but they are throwing in a load of useless stuff to entice you to buy.
You might find a better deal elsewhere for just the body and lens; look on Amazon.

Anything is a good camera. Is you want to do photography think the camera as a tool. So if you have a lot of money you can get an expensive tool what will do lots of things for you. In that case I suggest Canon 5D mark II or III, they are great cameras. Of course Nikon has great cameras as well I guess I'm just a Canon guy;) I've seen or worked with photographers that do amazing photography with point and shoot or even a cellphone. So yes to answer your question about this specific camera. It's good enough to start. You will learn the basics, play around with it and experiment. You will learn fast enough that it's not the camera that does the photo it's you, your vision of something your take a picture of. Then you'll realize that for certain things you would need that type of lens or you would need more or better option, etc…

It's an entry level DSLR which is designed for beginners. But you should pay attention to what fhotoace has said. That deal doesn't look so good when you examine it.

To be honest with you, I wouldn't advise that you buy a camera on e-bay. It's just too risky.

Have a look in your local phone directory and see if there are any independent camera stores in your area. Many carry a wide range of refurbished and second hand cameras - visit the store, check the quality of the equipment before you buy.

I would stay as far away from this "deal" as possible. I read the entire listing twice and saw NO mention of theses items which are supposed to come in the box with the camera: Battery, Battery Charger, Eyepiece Cap, Rubber Eyecup, Camera Strap, Accessory Shoe Cover, Body Cap, ViewNX2 CD-ROM.

The so-called 2X Telephoto and Wide Angle Lens Adapter are cheap, screw-in attachments that do much more harm than good to image quality.

Buy from a reputable on-line seller.
