She broke her digital camera. What do buy?

My girlfriend dropped her digital camera. I own a mid range Nikon. What is a good choice for her? She is not tech savvy enough for an expensive camera. She needs to point and shoot.

Ok, well the I-phone 4 is looking like a good investment.

The old camera still works, but the LCD display is broken. I'm looking for a creative idea on what to do with the old camera. I have lots of broken tech junk to experiment with!

Added (1). Gotta love that baloon idea!

She doesn't need to be tech savvy for an expensive camera. Get her a Sony NEX-3 or 5. Just make sure you get a pretty but sturdy strap to go with it so she'll use the strap all the time.

The old camera? Tie it face down to a tethered balloon and set the timer to maximum. Raise the balloon as you and your Girlfriend freeze your smiles waiting for it to shoot.

The iPhone 4 and 4s is actually pretty good for quick on-the-go photography. On the other hand, if she was fine with that Nikon, maybe the upgraded version or the same one might be best since she's not tech savvy. If she never complained about it until it broke, a similar camera will do. If she has complained before and wished it was different, you should list what she wants in a camera and let us know so we can try to give the best advice. This is just based on what you've said right now.

iPhone 4 or 4s is good and might be better. It's not too technical and there's different apps that are meant for users like her who aren't tech savvy, etc.

An Olympus TG 810 or Nikon 100AW are both ruggedized cameras and will survive a drop from 5ft.

Turn it into a webcam. Point it to where people are likely to have mass public gatherings like OWS.
