Replacement for Canon PowerShot A630?

I'm in the market for a new high-end point-and-shoot camera. I love my Canon PowerShot A630, but it's quite old, has slowed down substantially and is need of some repairs. Outweighing the costs, it's cheaper to buy new than get repaired. So I need suggestions!

I want something as similar, but a little bit improved. I still want an articulated screen (I love this feature and use it often) and manual control over functions. If possible I need better stabilization, preferably something that has OK or functional low light capture (A630 is TERRIBLE at this) and is under $500. I'd like to stay with either Canon or Nikon.

Added (1). I photograph mostly architectural/landscape and for memories, but do on occasion photograph sporting events (diving, football and baseball in particular).

Some are tilt ony, others are fully articulated

My choice would be the Canon Powershot G1 X

$550, but well worth it due to its huge 1.5" sensor size

The Canon G12 would have been the most similar replacement, but it is discontinued. You might find a decent used sample. An unopened sample will be greatly overpriced. The G15 could be a good replacement, but they dropped the articulated viewfinder.
