Picking a new DSLR Nikon?

I'm thinking about buying a dslr nikon. This will be my first SLR camera. And i do not know much about cameras. I would probably only use one lens. Because this camera would be used for taking pictures of friends and maybe some shots for just photography. I'm 15 so i don't want to have to carry around a real big camera but i do want an dslr nikon. What do you think would be best for me to buy? And there isn't really a price limit except for under 1000

And to add to the amazon spambots, get a d3100. Intended for casual photographers, has video and is quite small for a dslr.

Not a big camera. But a Nikon. Clearly you have a bit to read before buying, you don't want to spend $1000 on a DSLR and don't know anything about it.

First of all, there are 5 big brands, with Canon and Nikon. So don't be "Nikon only" when you don't even know a lot about DSLRs.

Second, the smaller ones are cheap, so it's good. Canon EOS XS, XSi and Nikon D3100 (best) are your options if you want something small.
