Pentax K-x, was it a good choice?
I'm a newbie to the whole DSLR game, but I did some research and I purchased the Pentax K-x. Now I can easily return it and invest in a Canon EOS or a Nikon. But as a beginner, do you think this will be the best camera for me?
It is a fine camera.
The only drawbacks are the number of lenses available for the Pentax system.
Nikon and Canon are the two systems that have the most available lenses. They are the only camera systems that can be tethered to Adobe Lightroom.
The two entry level cameras made by Nikon and Canon that are similar to the K-x are the Nikon D3100 and Canon T2i
The best advice I ever heard regarding the purchase of camera equipment is to stop shopping after you make the purchase.
Great choice! I have mine in Stormtrooper White. Here's something to help you learn the basic principles of photography.

As long as you know how to work within the limits of your camera, you can take any picture you imagine.
Pentax K-x is a great camera. Enjoy.
