Nikon Lense On Canon Camera?

I saw a movie on Youtube, and he said he used the Canon Eos 550D, with the Nikon 50mm lense.

Can you use a Nikon lense on a Canon camera?

Because I want to make book trailers, and things. But I need a good lense for my eos 550D, if you can't mix Nikon lenses with Canon?

This is the kind of question I'd expect of someone who can't spell, 'Lens.'

You could probably do so with an adapter, but the loss of function isn't worth the hassle - Canon and third parties make every lens you could possibly need - and they all work perfectly with your camera.

I guess the question is why do you not want to buy a Canon 50 mm lens and use it?

It is possible, but pretty much stupid. Not only does Canon have their own 50mm lenses, they are actually cheaper than the Nikon 50mm's.

If he is using an old manual 50mm and thinks he's special because of it, he's wrong there too.

Lens: Singular.

Lenses: Plural

"It is better to have one high quality lens than it is to have two low quality lenses."

Honestly I've no idea why anyone would want to go through the expense and hassle of using a Nikon lens on a Canon DSLR body. Just buy a Canon EF 50mm f1.4 and be guaranteed of 100% compatibility.

What for? Canon makes 50mm lenses too. Here's the cheap version.

If you go the Nikon way, here's what you have to get.

The cost difference is negligible to you, the "Notes" on the adapter page would be the deal breaker if you care to understand them.

It is possible to use the Nikon lens with an adapter although the autofocus won't work. The reason the person probably used the Nikon lens for making a video is for manual control of the aperture. If you know how to focus manually and manipulate the aperture to get a desired effect in the video then that's fine. However, if you are not familiar with these aspects of video production then just get a Canon lens that can autofocus.

If you happen to have a Nikon 50mm f1.8 or f1.4 AF-D lens, it might be worth adapting, although the adapter can cost almost as much as a new Canon EF 50mm f1.8. The new Nikon 50mm f1.8 AF-S G, which can be a better lens with a Nikon DSLR, would be an even bigger problem to adapt to a Canon body. With no electronic communication between the Nikon lens and Canon body, it requires an even more expensive adapter to make up for its absence of a mechanical aperture ring.

Yes you can but you need the adapter for doing it. Its around 40$ for the right that fits on your canon
