Nikon Fm10 not metering/focusing?
So i'm in photography class in school and they lent me a Nikon Fm10 to shoot. Well i tried to take pictures and it won't meter (it's stuck on the red minus sign) and it also won't focus. I never had this problem before. Any suggestions? And i can't ask my teacher because i have an assignment due tomorrow and need to shoot today. Thank you!
Added (1). Yes i do realize there's a focusing ring LOL. But when i try to focus, it doesn't work and is still blurry
Check the battery.
This is something that should have been corrected before you took possession of it.
Replace the battery. See Power source in the link below for your options.

Yes, you pay for the battery. The school already did its part in paying for the camera.
1) new battery for the meter!
2) You realise that it does not auto focus, you have to turn a section of the lens barrel to focus!
As others have said, it's a manual focus camera. That will help you to learn about accurate focus and depth of field (in conjunction with the aperture settings on the lens).
With regard to the meter, if it's not just the battery but is broken then you can still use the camera and will learn a lot about light levels, exposure reciprocity (an absolutely VITAL bit of knowledge) and film exposure latitude if you look up and use the "sunny 16 rule". The college I studied at sent it's photography students out with Pentax K1000 cameras which had the light meter deliberately disabled for that very reason.
Exposure latitude means that you can still get fully usable images under most circumstances if your exposure is not accurate. It works because film has to be printed, and wrongly exposed negatives can be compensated for in the darkroom. It was enough of a saver that in the newspaper industry the professional photographer's mantra was "f/8 and be there".
Replace the battery which powers the light meter.
The FM10 has no autofocus, you need to manually focus.
Battery almost dead? And indeed the problem will teach you to check any equipment before you accept it.
And as others say, it can be used as a manual camera with no battery.
