Nikon FF Lense advice?
Can you please advise me on two lenses for a Nikon Full Frame DSLR:
- A wide angle ( around 17mm - 40mm)
- A Telephoto ( around 70mm - 300mm)
And fairly cheap ones please - nothing over £500
The AF Nikkor 24-85 mm f/2~4 (£505) is a very practical lens and on a full frame camera it is wide enough. If you have looked at the available lenses from Nikon, you will see that there are not many FX lenses in your price range, but the 24-85 is.
On the other end of the spectrum is the AF-S 70-300 mm VR which is excellent for your needs (£360)
I own both these lenses and use the 24-85 mm the most of the two.
The best prices I have seen for these lenses have been on Amazon UK.
In total? Or each?
Since you're using FX, you can go for second hand lenses.
For the wide angle range, you could potentially go for an AI/AI-S prime. Something like an AI-S 20mm f3.5 will be around £200-300. You could then get an inexpensive Series E 28mm f2.8 to fill the gap for around £70-80, if you want to spend a bit more the AI-S 35mm f2 is available for around £120-180.
In the 70-300mm range, you'll want to have autofocus. Perhaps an AF Nikkor 80-200mm f2.8 or AF-S Nikkor 80-200mm f2.8 which are around £200-400 depending on condition, these are pretty solid and give you some low light capability. Alternatively, if you don't need f/2.8, then try the AF-S Nikkor 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 G ED-IF VR (make sure you get this version), or the Tamron SP 70-300mm f4-5.6 Di VC USD (very similar to the Nikkor, but cheaper, again make sure you get this specific version).
