Nikon 7246 12x50 EX Extreme Action compared to Nikon Action 16x50 EX?
I want to buy a nice binocular and confused between:
Nikon 7246 12x50 EX Extreme Action compared to Nikon Action 16x50 EX
In stores both are not available, I have to order online so without using its difficult to decide.
Any answers please?
One has a higher magnification, 12 x vs 16x
Both have a 50 mm objective lens diameter
The Nikon Action binoculars should be of similar quality. It can depend on what you want to look at.
More magnification means a narrower field of view. It also magnifies hand held shake. If you want to hold the binoculars in your hand and scan around for people or animals or things that move around, 8x40 is the highest you should go. Higher magnification requires a tripod for good results. More magnification won't show you more detail when your eyes can't move fast enough to keep up with the shakiness.
"Extreme" or not refers to it's water-resistance.
12x50's are going to be brighter than 16x50's, probably cost less, and are plenty for most uses. At 16x magnification, it is hard to hold binos still by hand. I have a device that attaches to the screw on most binos at the front end of the hinge, with a standard 1/4x20 mount on the bottom. It lets me attach the binos (Nikon 8-18x50 zoom) to a monopod or tripod. Much better at the longer end that way.
