Nikon 24-70 f/2.8. Discuss?

Pros? Cons? Alternative choices? Will they bring out a VR version?

I have used the 17-55 on my DX cameras for years, but it was the first lens I bought.

Now, I have the 28-300 as well as the 24-85 f/3.5-4.5 VR. Should I spend the money?

Added (1). I was thinking I'd sell the 24-85, but there's such an excess on the market after Nikon gave so many away, that they barely sell for $300 right now. It's not worth getting rid of a decent lens for that little. I mean, it's supposed to sell for $600, but even brand new in the box copies are not getting $300-325 sales.

The April 2013 issue of Shutterbug has a review of the new Tamron SP 24-70mm f2.8 Di VC USD zoom lens. In my opinion you should read it before making a buying decision. With VC (Vibration Conpensation) it offers what the comparable Nikon 24-70mm f2.8 and Canon 24-70mm f2.8 both lack - stabilization.

Here is an earlier review: http://www.dpreview.com/...p8_divcusd

I'm guessing you'll sell your 24-85 even though the Tamron is 15mm shorter.

It really depends on the type of shooting you do. This is a great lens in combination with the 70-200 f2.8 for wedding photography. It is a relatively expensive lens, but produces great results, and will give you the capability of shooting in lower light situations. So it really depends, if you have a use for it go for it. If you need fast glass and super sharp pictures, you will not be disappointed.
