Nikon 1 J1 Good Camera?

Brittney

I'm looking forward to the Nikon 1 J1 10.1 Mega Pixels. And i'm sure it's a really good camera like it says. I'm in to photography and I know this is not the good camera for it but the reviews I hear says it's a great camera. I also enjoy making videos so I really want to know is it good or not. Or please name good cameras under $550.

You either love 'em or hate 'em!

For me they are grossly over priced for what is a glorified point and shoot pretending to be a serious camera. The Nikon D3200 is around the same price and is Way better.

It has the same problems as most EVIL cameras, the sensor's too small and the lenses are expensive.

If you want this type of camera, the Pentax K-01 sacrifices size for the ability to take Pentax K-mount (very common) SLR/DSLR lenses and has the same sensor as some Pentax DSLRs. Similar models from Sony and Olympus also have DSLR-sized sensors.

If you don't mind something slightly bigger, DSLRs from Canon, Nikon, Pentax and Olympus produce better results - and Sony's SLTs edge it on video.

Took the words right out of my mouth. A way over priced point and shoot that pretends to be a serious camera but isn't. All EVIL cameras are designed for snappers - people who hold the camera out in front of their face, looking ridiculous, when the snap a shot.

Besides all of that for less money you can have a Canon or Nikon dslr camera that's far higher quality, will last for many years (if taken care of) and gives better results.

There are advantages and disadvantages. For stills the DSLR's are more capable. They are heavier and bulkier. You can't take a picture with a camera that isn't with you. The Nikon J1 should have better quality than the compact digitals with tiny sensors. It should also outperform the compacts and the DSLRs for video.

There are things to love about the Nikon 1 series and sadly also things to dislike.

The problem is that is not a cheap system. The lenses for the 1 are not cheap, the camera itself is decently priced.we're not some issues

See the sensor is rather small for that price. Look what people don't want a DSLR but want something with controls and interchangable lenses that is what they want. The Nikon 1 fails here.

The Nikon 1 targets soccermoms, it lacks the controls the pro's seek. Sure it is a fast shooter with pretty decent image quality and… Sadly overpriced lenses. But it isn't something a person who likes to have control wants to use.

The issue is control it simply doesn't offers the needed controls. And that is a huge problem. Most cameras CSC/EVIL's are made for the DSLR owner that wants a decent second camera. Some EVIL's are even good enough for people to replace the idea of a DSLR outfit. But the Nikon 1 isn't one of them.

Nikon 1 tries to simplify things. Make it easy. For the soccermom. I'm not a soccermom!

But if you want a decent camera system in that price range.thing Panasonic GF3 with a decent pancake lens. Very capable camera system MFT"s. You also can buy the Sony NEX, bigger sensor sadly also bigger lenses but. It is very good at what it does.

There's the Fuji X Pro.a bit expensive so.very good though

Now I suggest that Panasonic GF3, you get quite good results and all the basic controls you need. It is system able to make some lovely pictures. It has a sensor big enough to mean something and it has very nice image quality. Also look at the Samsung NX series, again Micro Fourth Third.

You can buy extra lenses for that system and it has some very good results.

Consider Nikon D3100 some features about this camera:
* Good image quality - the 14.2 megapixels allow you to make large prints of shots without sacrificing quality
* Fantastic high ISO performance - even at ISO 3200 or Hi1 and Hi2, the camera performs well under low light without excessive noise or grain problems.
* Light, small and very comfortable to shoot with - all my friends who have DSLRs that picked up this camera exclaimed "Wow this thing is So ridiculously light"
