Okay so i want to buy a lens, but I'm in a bit of a predicament. I can only buy one but which? Help me decide! If you've got either give me your opinions! Would be greatly appreciated.

Nikon Af-S 17-35/2.8D OR Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II

Its all depend what do you want to do. If you want to photograph landscape with lots of trees, sky, and sea. Then go with 17-35. If you want to click people standing on the few meter away and you don't let them know that you are clicking them.buy 70-200. Choice is urs.

Neither.

The worst-kept secret in digital photograpy is that you can get an adaptor on ebay for a great price, and use some of the FANTASTIC lenses of the 1970's - 90's when optics were All that mattered, and get truly AMAZING results with them on your new digital SLR.
Pick up any camera magazine, and you will find great work from people who will have detailed their equipment, and many are using this 'best of the old & the new' tactic - and why park a SUPERB lens in a cupboard, when it could still be earning it's keep?

They're two totally different meant for totally different photographic situations. And you're not experienced to warrant the purchase of either. An 18-55 VR and 55-200 VR are all you need at this point. The 17-35 is extremely boring an crop-body cameras.

This impossible to answer, without the knowledge of what you like and need to photograph. If you prefer wide angle scenes than the 17-35mm. If you like portraits to bringing in distance objects (scenery) or sporting events, then I would go for the 70-200mm. You may like both, but due to money available have to choose the most used at this time, and then wait for the other.

What lenses do you have right now? And what will you be photographing? Oh and also there's a lot down to personal choice. I generally run with a wide angle zoom and a fast telephoto prime, but a lot of photographers prefer a fast wide/standard prime and a 70-200.
