What is better, nikkor 50mm f/1. 8 or 35mm f/1.8 lens?

I'm planning on buying a new lens, preferably a prime lens. At first, my choice was to buy the 35mm f/1.8 lens, but now that I see that the 50mm just recently came out, I'm having doubts.

What do you guys recommend?

The 50mm isn't a new lens. It's one of the standards. The 1.8 is cheap as hell for what you get and worth it's weight in gold.
HOWEVER if you are shooting on a crop sensor camera it is TIGHT. Set your kit lens at 50mm and shoot only at 50mm. If you are comfortable with it being that tight, it's an awesome lens. Otherwise go with the 35.
The 35 has always been popular with crop sensor users for that reason and for the fact that the Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 does not have the auto focus motor in it so on cameras like the d3000 d5000 series, d40… It is only manual focus-which I believe is the improvement in the new version of that lens (the one that runs about $200)

I love my 50mm 1.8, I just bought the 1.4 last week! Amazing lens, especially for the price. It's on my camera 90% of the time. I have a Nikon d90, cropped sensor so it can get a little tight… That's my only complaint

I also have the nikkor 18-55mm 3.5-5.6, which I only shoot at 18mm

If you're shooting a crop sensor, any nikon under the D700, you will probably like the 35mm better. I have both versions in canon and rarely use the 50mm on my crop sensor and never us the 35mm on my full frame. If you have a full frame go with the 50mm.
