What are the special features of a Nikon - AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 Lens?
What is the reason photographers buy these lenses and don't just use stock lenses?
F/1.8 allows you to take a picture with maximum shallow depth of field. I'm actually looking for a lense to do that for my camera. Its an amazing effect when you take photos of people because it basically means the object your focused on is the only thing in focus and the background is ultra blurred creating a very dramatic picture. Google ""shallow depth of field" to see what I mean
Besides the shallow depth of field and great boken, the lens is very good in taking photos in very low light. There are times when one can't or don't want to use a flash. The 35mm lens is nice to use when you are taking a group photo and don't have much room to use a longer lens.
The AF-S Nikkor 35mm F1.8G DX is Nikon's latest lens, announced in February for PMA 2009. Its introduction came as something of a surprise to many observers, not because it's an updated 35mm lens with a built-in autofocus motor, but because the 'DX' designation indicates that it's designed for use on DX format bodies, and isn't fully compatible with Nikon's growing FX format camera range.
Its special features: a lens that is smaller, lighter and cheaper than it would have been had it offered full coverage of the FX image circle. In effect, the lens is primarily targeted as an inexpensive, large aperture option for users.
