Tamron Vs Sigma Lens?

Tamron SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di II VC vs Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 EX DC Macro HSM? They are pretty similar lens but I'm not sure which one is better.

I've always had a side for Sigma, my first lens whas sigma, and i loved it. I think you shouldn't buy Tamron, it's just not good enough for me, but if you're an average user I'd buy Tamron, it's always a bit cheaper

That is a tricky question. These are so close in quality that the sample varations comes into it. I like the design choices of tamron a bit more than that of sigma.

The Tamron lens has a very good reputation (except for a mediocre autofocus), and an image stabilizer.
I haven't heard anything about that Sigma lens yet, but it apparently does not have an image stabilizer.
Note that the tamron lens will require an autofocus motor in the camera body, while the Sigma one does not. So if you use a D40(x), D60, D3000 or D5000, then that will be an issue.

The best entry level lens award this year from TIPA went to the Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4

As far as the two you've mentioned just ask yourself how important the wide setting is. If it is important get the Tamron as that 1mm can make a lot of difference believe it or not. If that isn't an issue for you then get the Sigma (HSM).
Also don't forget the Tokina 16-50 as another option!

I own one Tamron lens and I won't buy another because it has issues. I've heard some good about Sigma but don't actually own or use one.
I have a Canon 1000D and use only Canon lenses now because the glass is much higher quality not to mention that they're quick, sharp and accurate.

I would suggest buying Tamron AF 17-50mm F/2.8 SP XR Di II VC
