Of the lenses with those focal lengths, I have and use the Nikkor 18-200 mm VR II

If the Nikkor 18-300 mm lens had been available, I may have picked it

Actually there are NO perfect lenses for specific cameras, rather the perfect lenses for specific subjects.

* Nikkor 10-24 mm, 12-24 mm or 14-24 mm for landscapes and architecture.
* Nikkor 24-70 mm or 24-85 mm for general photography and some sports
* Nikkor 70.200 mm, Nikkor 200 mm, 300 mm, 400 mm and 200-400 mm lenses for sports
* Nikkor 50 mm for shooting portraits using a DX camera or Nikkor 85 mm or 105 mm for shooting portraits using an FX camera body

The bottom line is you need to pick the lens with the focal lengths you really need and if necessary, save your pennies a while longer until you can buy that lens

You may want to spend some time on the link below to see exactly what your first two choices of lenses "see"

It is pretty obvious that you are best off with the Tamron 18-200mm. If you can afford the 18-300mm then go for that instead. Sell your 18-55mm if you have to.

There's no best lens but there's a best lens for certain types of photographers and more importantly a best lens for a certain type of shot. The 18-200mm is capable enough for almost all types of shots most photographers will encounter. What it can't do is shoot to make small things look large and shoot in very cramped spaces. Those are two specialized conditions anyway that most ordinary photographers won't encounter ever.

A lens of 18mm to 200mm is a good "all-rounder" lens, and would replace the 18mm to 55mm kit zoom lens which came with the camera. It will give the same wide-angle at 18mm, but the tele end at 200mm will brting distant things closer.

A lens of 70mm to 300mm takes over just a little above where the 18mm to 55mm leaves off at 55mm. And the 300mm end is even more powerful than the 200mm noted above.

So you have the choice - one "universal lens", or you carry two lenses, one on the camera, and one in a bag, and interchange them as needed.
