Need Camera DSLR and lens buying advice

Brian

I'm looking into buying a nikon dslr for all different types of photos, scenic, indoor creative stuff, or just portraits. So what's the best nikon with a normal and macro lens for "general use" is there between 500-600 and 700-800. I have two price ranges because i don't know how much i can afford right now but any camera suggestions in this range would be great!

I also have a Nikon 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5D AF Nikkor Lens that was used for a slr camera so i was wondering if i could use this for a dslr and save money instead of buying another one. This is a macro lens right? I'm not sure so let me know if it is and if i could use it on a dslr that i purchase.

again, thanks for all the help in advance!

That lens, which I own and love, needs a d90 or better otherwise the autofocus will not work. Lucky for you these are now being sold out at nice prices.

I've shot this with a 28-105 on an old d50

Although some zoom lenses have macro capability, they are not "true" macro lenses (i.e. 1:1 ratio. For an explanation of this, do a google search).

The zoom you have sounds fine to use on a dSLR. Assuming you are getting the lower end models (consumer or "prosumer" models, which are cropped sensor cameras) It might not be wide enough for indoors or panoramic shots. But most likely the new camera will also come with a lens (referred to as the 'kit lens'), which will take care of this.

A lens that can do both normal and macro would be a 50mm micro lens. Though on a cropped sensor camera this would act like an 85mm lens.

Not sure what you mean by 500-600 and 700-800. Are you talking about prices or zoom ranges?

I suggest going online and looking at dSLR buying guides (like "how to buy your first SLR camera")
