How to get cigarette smoke out of camera lens?

I bought a MINT nikkor 70-200 2.8 VR on ebay for an amazing price, but when I got it it stinks like an ashtray. I cleaned the lens barrel in rubbing alcohol and the smell didn't come out.
How can I get rid of the smell?
It is also in the lens bag

Bad news dude, cigarette smoke never really goes away. It gets into the object - paper, metal, plastic, fabric and no amount of washing, wiping, dry cleaning gets it out. Really.
Change the bag - you might be able to live with the lens. Fabrics hold the smell more than plastics or metals. Leave the lens out in fresh air for a while, hopefully it will off gas a bit.
