Can i use a 3rd party lens wit a nikon teleconverter tc 20 E II (new nodel)?
I own a nikon teleconverter tc 20 e (new model). All nikkor lens compatible with it are way too expensive and i can't afford to buy one as of now. Will i successfully be able to use any 3rd party lenses with the nikon teleconverter?
Sure, so long as the 3rd party lens has a Nikon mount it will fit on the teleconverter.
Teleconverters work best with fast, prime lenses. But if you use one on a zoom lens, you should not use a lens slower than f/2.8.
Here is the problem. When using a teleconverter, you lose 2 stops. So if you have an inexpensive consumer-grade telephoto lens that has a minimum aperture of f/5.6, the effective aperture at best will be f/11. At that small of an aperture, even in bright daylight, your camera's autofocus will probably not work, nor will you be able to see enough to manually focus.
But if you use a f/2.8 telephoto lens (which is not cheap), then the minimum aperture will be f/5.6, and in that case, your camera will be able to focus properly.
For that reason, teleconverters are not usually worth what you pay for them, as you have to also buy a very expensive lens for it to work properly. Even a Sigma lens, such as the 70-200mm f/2.8 is going to cost you $1, 300, and that is about the minimum quality you will be able to get away with.
For this reason, many people don't use teleconverters, as they require such expensive lenses to work properly, that it is much easier to just add the cost of buying a teleconverter to the budget of buying a proper lens.
