Is this camera good for an amateur photographer?
I'm in highschool, just having fun but I do love photography. Unfortunately I have a habit of adopting new hobbies and giving them up. I'm hoping to stick to photography but the cameras are expensive and knowing me I decided to be frugal.
I will be taking scenic pictures. Which means I need a 18-55mm lens.
Anyways my budget was $600-700 for a DSLR.
HOWEVER upon looking at the flyers I found a NIKON digital camera that has the following:
4.5 - 94.5mm
21x Zoom
1:3.1 - 5.8
14.1 Megapixel
3.0'' LCD
720 HD Video
The price is $229.99. I think this is a good deal even though it's not a DSLR it will do the job right? What do you guys thing based on my needs?
The main differences between DSLR cameras and the camera you posted (presumably a bridge camera) is that a DSLR has the capability to do so much more.
it might be a good idea to go ahead and get that camera, and put the rest of the money away until you decide if you actually want to get a DSLR or not
Whether or not the camera does the job right depends on you- your shooting habits, how you manipulate ISO, shutter speed, and Aperture to conform to what you want to shoot, etc. The camera is just a tool.
get it, try it out, see if you like photography or not. After a year of saving back up to that $700 and thoroughly testing your skills to see whether you like it, then decide if you want to get a DSLR.
