Is the Nikon AF 35-70mm F/2.8 zoom function supposed to stick?

It's a bit difficult to zoom in one motion when using my Nikon 35-70mm F/2.8 lens. I was wondering if this is a design aspect, since it seems to hang a little near the 50mm mark.

No, but it's a common problem with old zooms. Getting it looked at and fixed shouldn't be that expensive, around a 100 bucks.
